These terms govern your use of the ComplianceGrid website, developer dashboard, sandbox and APIs (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to them on behalf of yourself and the organization you represent. If you have a signed agreement with us, it controls where it differs from these terms.
The Service is information, not advice
ComplianceGrid provides compliance data and automated analysis. It is not legal advice and does not make compliance determinations for you. Screening matches are potential matches that need human review. A clear result does not prove that a party is not restricted, and results depend on the data available when you call. Each response states its source (meta.dataSource) and, for screening, the list version and retrieval time. You remain responsible for your own compliance decisions, filings and records, and should consult qualified counsel or a licensed customs broker where needed.
Sandbox and production
The sandbox returns canned mock responses so you can build an integration. They are not real results and must not be used for compliance decisions. Production returns real results from the sources described in our documentation; some preview endpoints use small sample datasets and say so in meta.dataSource.
Accounts and keys
- You must give accurate registration information and keep your credentials and API keys secret. You are responsible for activity under your keys.
- Tell us promptly at security@compliancegrid.ai if a key is exposed. You can rotate or revoke keys in the dashboard.
Acceptable use
You will not:
- use the Service unlawfully, or to evade sanctions or export controls;
- attempt to disrupt or probe the Service other than under our disclosure policy;
- exceed rate limits by using multiple accounts, or resell or sublicense the Service as a standalone data product without our written agreement;
- send personal data to the Service that you have no right to send.
Fees
Production use is billed as described on the pricing page or your order form. Calls that fail because of an error on our side are not billed. The sandbox is free within its rate limits.
Prepaid credit
Production use on a self-serve account is prepaid. Accounts on an order form or invoice are governed by that agreement instead.
- What credit is. Credit is US dollars you pay in advance for the Service, for use by your business. Each successful call takes its price, at the rates on the pricing page, from your balance. Failed calls are not charged, and a call that has already started when your balance reaches zero completes. The balance is shown in your Billing page and at
GET /v1/account/credit. - Buying. The minimum purchase is $10 and there is no maximum. Credit is added when the payment succeeds, and each purchase has a receipt.
- No expiry. Credit does not expire.
- When credit runs out. Production calls that your balance cannot cover return
402 insufficient_credituntil you add credit. The sandbox is not affected. We email you when your balance falls to the level you set (ten dollars unless you change it) and when it runs out. - Auto-reload. It is off unless you turn it on. You choose the balance that triggers it, the amount to add and, if you wish, a monthly limit, and you authorise us to charge your saved card for it. You can turn it off at any time. If a reload charge fails, we turn auto-reload off and email you.
- Refunds. Unused credit from a purchase can be refunded to the card you paid with within 14 days of the purchase. Credit you have used is not refundable, except where we billed you in error or the law requires a refund. When you close your account, we refund your unused credit to the card that paid for it where the card network allows, and otherwise by another method we arrange with you; ask at support@compliancegrid.ai.
- Disputes. If a payment is refunded or disputed, we remove the matching credit from your balance, and a dispute also turns auto-reload off.
- What credit is not. Credit is not a bank account, deposit or stored-value card, earns no interest, cannot be transferred or resold, and can be used only for the Service.
- Prices and tax. Credit you have already bought keeps its dollar value if our prices change. Prices exclude taxes that apply to your purchase.
Filing export information as your authorized agent
This section applies when you ask us to file Electronic Export Information (EEI) for you as your authorized agent ("managed filing"). It does not apply when you file yourself in AESDirect. The fee for managed filing is on the pricing page. It is held from your prepaid credit when you queue a filing, kept when AES accepts the filing, and returned if AES rejects it or you cancel before we start.
- Written authorization first. Federal rules require us to hold a power of attorney or written authorization from you before we file (15 CFR 30.3). We file only for an exporter whose signed authorization we have received and verified. You can use our template. You can revoke it at any time, which stops future filings and does not affect filings already made.
- What we do. We prepare and file your EEI in the Automated Export System from information you give us, from within the United States, and return the Internal Transaction Number or the reason AES refused it. We are not a freight forwarder or customs broker, we do not act as the exporter or principal party in interest, and we do not give legal advice.
- You are responsible for the information. You must give us accurate, complete and timely information for each filing, including the parties, goods descriptions, classification, values, quantities, dates, and any license or license exception details. You decide how your goods are classified and whether a license is required, and you obtain any license. We may rely on the information you and the other parties give us, and we may refuse or hold a filing that looks incomplete, inaccurate or unlawful, and tell you why. You are responsible for penalties, fines and losses that result from inaccurate or incomplete information you give us.
- We are responsible for the filing. We are responsible for preparing and filing your EEI accurately and on time from the information we receive (15 CFR 30.3(c)(2)). We keep the EEI confidential and do not disclose it to a foreign person or foreign government (15 CFR 30.60(c)(4)).
- Timing. Managed filing is done by our staff, so it is not instant and is not available around the clock unless we agree otherwise in writing. Send complete information well before the deadline that applies to your shipment. We are not responsible for a missed deadline caused by information that reached us late or incomplete, or by AES or AESDirect being unavailable.
- Records. We keep the documents that support what we filed, and your signed authorization, for at least five years from the date of export (15 CFR 30.10), and longer if another agency requires it. You keep the documents that support the information you gave us for the same period. On request we give you a copy of the information we filed and its ITN, and we provide records to the Census Bureau, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and other agencies when they ask.
- Not covered. Routed export transactions and items on the U.S. Munitions List are outside managed filing unless we agree in writing.
- Liability. Our liability for a filing is limited as stated in "Warranties and liability" below. We are not liable for penalties or losses that arise from information you supplied, your classification or licensing decisions, or delays caused by AES.
Availability
Our availability commitment is described in the SLA. Upstream government data sources can be unavailable or delayed; the Service tells you when a source could not be reached.
Your data
You keep ownership of the data you send. You give us the right to process it to provide the Service, as set out in the Privacy Policy and, where it applies, the Data Processing Addendum. Government data we provide remains subject to its sources' terms.
Intellectual property
We own the Service, its software, documentation and our compilation of data. These terms give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service for your internal business purposes.
Warranties and liability
The Service is provided "as is" to the extent the law allows. We do not warrant that results are complete, error-free or fit for a particular purpose. To the extent the law allows, our total liability for claims arising from the Service is limited to the fees you paid in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. The limits for enterprise customers are set in their agreement.
Suspension and termination
You can stop using the Service and close your account at any time. We may suspend access for breach of these terms, security risk or non-payment. On closure we handle your data as described in the Privacy Policy.
Governing law
Governing law and venue for self-serve accounts will be specified here after legal review. Enterprise agreements specify their own.
